Darby and the Dead soundtrack: What songs play in the Hulu film?

5.14.2024

Darby and the Dead, the teen ghost comedy starring Riele Downs and Auli’i Cravalho, premiered on Hulu, Dec. 1. The movie follows Darby Harper, a high school junior who sees dead people due to a near-death experience she had as a child.

For years, Darby has been helping the ghosts in her community to pass on. She sees her counseling sessions with them as her job. It, however, has led to her being a loner at school and considered a weird recluse who seems to always be talking to herself.

But when her former childhood friend turned high school diva, Capri, dies because of a freak hair straightener accident, Darby is pushed off of the sidelines into the spotlight. Capri refuses to move on until her Sweet 17 party is back on and she can experience the blow out celebration she planned down to the T.

In order to do this, Capri needles Darby into becoming a popular girl so that she can convince the rest of the popular kids, including Capri’s circle, to go ahead with the party in her honor. Though she does so begrudgingly and under duress at first, Darby does find joy and a new outlook on life while helping Capri to pass on.

As is typical of teen movies, Darby and the Dead has a flashy, pop heavy, rock infused soundtrack that screams high school. Here’s the full tracklist of songs that play.
